Types of Postage

The domestic postal rate of thirty-three cents ensures airmail delivery of first-class letters throughout the United States. Letters and packages going overseas must be marked "airmail". Otherwise they will go by surface, which can take from six to eight weeks. Packages can be sent either airmail or parcel post (surface) inside the United States. Rates are based on weight of package and distance to destination.

Book Shipments

Books should be packaged in close fitting paperboard or fiber board boxes, or in padded or reinforced bags. They should be sealed and reinforced with gummed and pressure sensitive tapes. Be sure that the sender's address is in the upper left corner, with the receiver's address centered on the label. Because the weight limit for shipment of books and printed matter varies from country to country, it is best to check with the post office regarding the limit applicable to your country.

M Bags

This is by far the most inexpensive way to send international mail. M Bags can be sent by airmail or by surface mail. Prices vary depending on air or surface mail and destination. The package must weigh at least 15 lbs. M bags can only be sent from the Post Office. ILI staff can assist you with further questions.
