David J. Branson

David J. Branson is the Director of the International Law Institute’s ADR Center. He specializes in arbitration work and now serves as an arbitrator. He has served as an arbitrator and participated in proceedings as counsel in arbitrations conducted under the rules of the International Chamber of Commerce, the London Court of International Arbitration, the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes, UNCITRAL and the American Arbitration Association.
Mr. Branson has also been engaged in litigation practice for 33 years. He has appeared before the Supreme Court of the United States, several Courts of Appeal and District Courts.
Mr. Branson served as Vice Chairman of the American Bar Association, Section on International Law, Committee on International Arbitration as well as Vice Chairman of the Arbitration Committee of the International Bar Association. He has taught International Arbitration at the International Law Institute in Washington, DC since 1993 and has conducted the annual program in International Commercial Arbitration at the International Law Institute Centre in Kampala, Uganda since 2007. Mr. Branson was an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center for five years. He has also taught a course on International Arbitration at Palacky University in the Czech Republic.
He has an LL.M. from St. Johns College, Cambridge University and a J.D. from Georgetown University.
