The International Law Institute in co-operation with Winston & Strawn, LLP and Sidley Austin, LLP proudly hosted the fourteenth annual Walter Surrey Memorial Luncheon in June 2009. The Memorial Luncheon is a Washington tradition that commemorates the achievements of Walter Surrey, who dedicated his life to the advancement of international law. Mr. Daniel Price, this year’s keynote speaker, currently senior partner at Sidley Austin, LLP and former Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economics Affairs addressed at the luncheon the topic of Global Governance Challenges: Climate Change and the Financial Crisis. Mr. Price states that countries are interconnected and the problems of individual nations become global. Collaboration and an increase in responsibilities for international institutions are required to solve the concerns facing the global community. The luncheon was attended by international law specialists, members of the US and foreign governments, and officials from the international diplomatic community.
