The African Development Law Centre is a member of the ILI-Washington’s global network of regional centers that operate in Kampala, Uganda and Cairo, Egypt. The ILI-Washington D.C. a leading specialized training institute in the world is the anchor of the regional centers; it was established in 1955 at Georgetown University, U.S.A. and has trained over 12,000 officials, managers and professionals from over 180 countries since its first seminar in 1971. Among those trained in Washington are more than 300 Nigerians nationals. The courses that are developed and executed in Nigeria are of the same quality that has distinguished ILI’s programs for over three decades. The ADLC has a small professional and support staff at its headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria and with guidance of its Advisory and Governing Boards and cooperation from its global network of centers it provides training and technical assistance to find practical solutions to the legal, economic and financial problems of developing countries. As an educational institution serving Nigeria, the West African sub region and Africa as a whole, its training and technical assistance programs are conducted by adjunct faculty and advisors, a body of hundreds of professionals of all nationalities from government agencies, academia, multilateral organizations and the private sector. They offer keen understanding of their fields of expertise, and share with participants and organizations a wealth of theoretical knowledge tempered by practical experience. Through its training, research and technical assistance programs, the African Development Law Center addresses many of the challenges facing the country, and the sub-region today. The Institute plans courses every year including specially tailored programs for government, private sector and multilateral organizations. The Center is fully cognizant of the fact that growth and stability can only be achieved through participation of trained professionals, fully conversant with latest trends and the skills needed to lead their organizations and govern their nations. The Institute has the capacity to advise public and private organizations in many areas, including among others, specific negotiations and special assignments, such as drafting of agreements, focused studies, revision of regulations, contract standardization, legislative drafting, procurement, and project management and execution. Till date, the African Development Law Center has trained more than 240 people from Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda. |
