| INTRODUCTION |
| The International Law Institute is pleased to announce the establishment of a regional campus in Nigeria - the ILI African Development Law Centre (ADLC), in the capital city of Abuja. The opening of ADLC enables the Institute to bring its services closer to its clients and to develop concrete regional perspectives in its training and technical assistance programs. Unlike the courses presented each year at ILI - Washington, which are attended by participants from all regions of the world, the curriculum at ADLC will focus on the unique challenges faced by Nigeria and neighboring nations of West Africa. The broad goals of the Institute are to enable developing countries to acquire the knowledge to build sustainable market economies, create legal infrastructures conducive to investment, and support constructive participation in the international economy. The executive director of ADLC is Mr. Sani Mohammed. A corporate governing board, chaired by Dr. R.O. Mowoe, is responsible for overseeing the work of ADLC. An advisory board of prominent citizens from the public and private sectors of Nigeria provides guidance and direction to ADLC. The Institute is proud to have ADLC join its growing network of regional campuses. The first campus, the ILI-Uganda Centre for Legal Excellence, opened in 1997 in Kampala, and plans are well underway to begin presenting courses at a third campus, in Cairo, in 2003. In the longer term the Institute anticipates regional campuses in Beijing, Kiev, and Jakarta. ILI’s Network of Regional Campuses receives funding from the OPEC Fund for International Development. |
