REGISTRATION

To apply for a seminar, each candidate must complete an application form. A current Curriculum Vitae (CV) and supporting essay are required of each candidate at the time of application.

Upon receipt of the candidate's completed application and approval by ILI, an acceptance letter will be issued to the candidate at the fax number or e-mail address provided. A tuition invoice, hotel reservation form and pre-arrival information will also be included in the admission packet.

The ILI strongly encourages candidates to apply as early as possible.

NOTICE: ILI reserves the right to cancel or postpone any seminar if the number of candidates is insufficient. The ILI will notify each registered candidate of the cancellation in sufficient time prior to the starting date of the seminar. In the event that ILI cancels the seminar, ILI will refund any monies paid towards tuition but will not be responsible for any of the costs associated with preparation for your trip to Washington, D.C. (e.g., visas, plane tickets, etc.)

CERTIFICATION

Upon successful completion of the seminar, each participant will be awarded a Certificate of Completion. Successful completion requires that a participant diligently attend all seminar sessions, including team meetings, promptly at the scheduled time from the first day through the last day; read all assignments, and participate in all group discussions and exercises. If a participant misses a number of sessions without proper reason, the ILI reserves the right to withhold certification.

TUITION AND DEPOSIT

Tuition fee for each seminar is printed on the application form and also posted on www.ili.org. The fee, payable in U.S. dollars, includes course instruction, books and reference materials, study visits, field trips, and ILI-organized social events.  Tuition DOES NOT include the cost of airfare, hotel, meals and incidentals. Each participant's organization or nominating agency should allocate an appropriate per diem amount to cover those expenses.

Submission of an application form does not guarantee participation, as the space available for seminars is limited. A USD $1,000 advance deposit per participant must be made at least ten business days prior to the start of the seminar to guarantee participation. The deposit is refundable up to five business days before the seminar; after that time, deposits will not be refunded (whether or not the candidate attends the seminar) but may be applied to that person's tuition for a future seminar. In case of a seminar cancellation, all paid deposits will be returned or, per candidate's request, applied to a future seminar.

The remainder of the tuition is payable to ILI on or before the first day of classes and can be made via wire transfer, company check drawn on a U.S. bank, traveler's checks, money order or cash. The ILI also accepts credit cards for tuition payments (VISA, MasterCard, and U.S. Government credit cards).

PAYMENT

ILI accepts payment via cash, credit card (Master Card or Visa), ACH, Visa Debit Cards and wire transfer for tuition.  Please see our PAYMENT page for details.

Please note that a partial tuition scholarship of up to 20% may be made available based on financial need.

ALUMNI DISCOUNT: ILI alumni receive a 5% discount on all new courses attended.

ILI provides all training and course materials, texts,  handouts and needed supplies.  At the conclusion of your program you will be provided a hard and soft copy of all materials given to you during your program.

LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION

All seminars are conducted in English unless otherwise indicated. Each participant is required to participate in seminar discussions, and must therefore be fluent in understanding, speaking, and reading English.

ACCOMMODATIONS / HOUSING

Participants attending seminars at ILI may either elect to obtain their own housing or take advantage of special rates ILI has established with nearby hotels. We recommend taking advantage of our recommended hotels.  ILI guests receive a discounted rate.

Most hotels with which ILI partners offer one or two-bedroom suites with fully equipped kitchenettes. (Non-suites are also available.)  Reservations require each candidate to submit a hotel reservation form, included as part of your admission packet, to the Program Administrator no later than ten business days prior to the start of the seminar. Hotel accommodations are not included in tuition.  Payment for accommodations is the responsibility of each participant.

NOTICES: ILI is happy to assist in processing reservation requests with our recommended hotels only.  Please note however, that we cannot make hotel reservations until a completed hotel form and a deposit is received. Reservations and special rates are subject to availability. Reservation requests submitted less than two weeks before the program may not be accepted. Please be aware of the different reservation and cancellation policies that apply to each hotel. Cancellations or changes in reservations must be requested at least one week in advance, otherwise hotels may apply late fees and other penalties. Please also consider that hotels in DC are expensive and may be difficult to obtain on short notice.  We encourage you to make reservations as soon as possible. Hotels require a security deposit or a credit card number to secure the reservation. The credit card will only work as security for your reservation and will not be charged until you arrive.  You may pay using a different payment method upon arrival at the hotel.

To obtain preferred rates and applicable tax exemptions at one of ILI's recommended hotels, you are required to register using ILI's hotel form and to make deposits in advance of the reservation via credit card to hold the reservation or via wire payment to ILI who will forward those funds directly to the hotel on your behalf.

Those participants choosing to arrange their own accommodations may feel free to do so.  Please budget accordingly for possible transportation costs.

In case of a seminar cancellation or proof of a denial of a U.S. visa, all paid deposits will be refunded or credited for a future seminars per the candidate's request.

All refunds are issued back to the originating source (ie, Ministry, Department, Donor Organization as applicable) not necessarily to the applicant.

VISAS

Candidates who need a visa to travel to the U.S. must apply with the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in their respective country and, in many cases, appear for an interview.·

Note that obtaining a U.S. visa could take from a few days to a few weeks; therefore, candidates should request approval from their employers and apply for U.S. visas at least six weeks prior to the start of the seminar to have sufficient time to secure all necessary documents for their trip to Washington. The admission letters sent to each accepted candidate should suffice to establish the need for a U.S. visa.  ILI has absolutely no input and can exert no influence over the outcome of a visa interview. For a full listing of U.S. missions abroad, visit http://usembassy.state.gov.

Most attendees will require either a B Visa (Tourist Visa) or be able to gain entrance via their country's VWP(Visa Waiver Program) with the U.S., as applicable.

Exclusive Exceptions:

Students who are attending ILI prior to immediately attending an LLM program in the U.S. will have received an F VISA to attend their U.S. university's LLM program.  In order to attend ILI prior to the start date of the university's F VISA, the  student may require ILI to provide a J1 VISA.  ILI can provide a DS-2019 for a J1 Visa; however this could have the potential to interfere with the university's F VISA. To inquire as to the best approach to this issue please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  An authorized ILI representative will consult with you on this issue and assist in determining best options.

Special Delegations or Visiting Scholars attending courses for extended periods of time, up to 6 months, will have need to apply for a J1 VISA.

In cases of selected LLM students attending ILI and then an LLM, Visiting Scholars and Special delegations, ILI will sponsor these visas and will issue the required DS-2019 and DS-7002 to support your J1 VISAs. Please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. LETTERS OF INVITATION

Once a participant or delegation is accepted into a specific program, ILI will issue to each person a letter of invitation and purpose, which should be brought with you, along with your invoice to your visa interview, as this documentation is often required.

HEALTH AND ACCIDENT INSURANCE

The ILI does not provide health insurance for participants attending training seminars. We recommend that all participants obtain health insurance prior to departure from home or consider purchasing accident insurance upon arriving in Washington, DC. Please note that you might be required to present a proof of means of medical coverage as a condition of entering the U.S.  Please also note that medical coverage in the U.S. can be very expensive in comparison to other countries.
