In
the fast-moving global economy of the 21st century, those nations,
companies, and individuals that will succeed must grasp the patterns
of world commerce, financial transactions, and communications,
and master the skills to thrive within them. Africa must build
at home to compete abroad. In many African nations, the infrastructure
for successful development and participation in the world economy
must be created.
Africa's most
valuable capital lies in its people. The institutions that matter--efficient
governments, stable judicial systems, and functioning capital
markets--are ultimately only as effective as the people who create
and manage them. In over five decades of providing professional
training and technical assistance services, the mission of the
International Law Institute has remained constant: to provide
government officials and private executives with the knowledge
to form sound policies and with the skills to lead their countries
toward economic expansion and effective participation in the
global economy.
The
International Law Institute's presence in Africa began in
1997 as a training centre for the Government of Uganda that
was a component of the World Bank's Institutional Capacity
Building project. The Institute expanded its mandate in 1998
and went into the new millennium responding to challenges
on the African continent. Guided by its mission, “fostering
prosperity through the rule of law,” the International
Law Institute – African Centre for Legal Excellence (ILI-ACLE)
has identified key priority areas which it will be engaged in
during the next decade of its operations. These are: the promotion
of Good Governance and Human Rights, Trade, Global Security,
the Environment, and the Role of Law in Information Technology.
Over the past ten years, the Institute has established itself
as one of the most respected providers of professional-level certificate
training seminars, technical assistance and advisory programmes,
conferences, and workshops in subjects broadly related to finance,
law, management and governance. By having a regional focus in
sub-Saharan Africa and by using a combination of both regional
and internationally renowned experts, ILI-ACLE has been able to
successfully ensure that its programmes address the unique challenges
confronting Africa with the most contemporary and relevant international
best practice. Click here

various activities that the Institute has undertaken in the decade
of its operations in Africa. Through the
support of its development partners, ILI-ACLE hopes to chart the
next decade continuing to make a positive contribution toward
promoting the rule of law and private sector development in Africa.

ILI-ACLE offers approximately 22 seminars annually at its training
centre in Kampala. For a current list of seminars, see Training.
ILI-ACLE led seminars have also been held in other African

Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) to offer several
seminars annually in Macau, China for mid to high level African
professionals with a view to sharing knowledge and learning from
the experiences of China on how to optimize Africa's opportunities
in the global market, as well as framing prospects for Afro-Sino
relations. For further information on ILI-ACLE Seminars,

Tailored Training Programmes
