ILI was honored to be able to speak and contribute to the 2021 East African Procurement Forum on April 16, 2021.  Speaking on behalf of the International Law Institute was Ms. Kim Phan, Director.

The East African Procurement Forum (EAPF) is an event which gathers Heads of public procurement regulatory bodies from East African Community (EAC) member states and other participants on annual basis. The forum attracts around 300 participants including Government officials, public procurement industry Experts, Government suppliers/Bidders, Development Partners, members of Civil Society and procurement Training Institutions, to mention but a few, in order to discuss public procurement issues and to come up with tangible resolutions impacting legal and regulatory framework of public procurement. The Forum provides participants with an opportunity to share experiences and challenges with the aim of improving country procurement systems while upholding the desire by member states to harmonize the systems towards a political federation.

This year, Rwanda will host this forum for the 3rd time and it will be held at Kigali Convention Center from 15th to 16th April 2021 under the theme "Strengthening Integrity and Accountability in Public Procurement for an effective emergency response » where discussions will revolve around emergency such as Covid-19.

Objectives of the Eastern African Procurement Forum:

 - To enhance interaction between different actors in public procurement in the East African Community
 - To give stakeholders an opportunity to share their experiences and efforts towards improving and harmonizing the
    public procurement landscape in the region.
 - To provide a platform for participants to share experiences and benchmark with one another in view of improving public
    sector procurement in the respective East African community countries
