Morgan Van Beck

Intern

Morgan is a senior at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University in Minnesota and will graduate in May 2024. She is majoring in Political Science and Spanish with minors in Latino Studies and Pre-Law. Morgan is originally from Sartell, Minnesota.

What Morgan she hopes to gain from interning at the International Law Institute: I wanted to intern here because I’ve been considering law school and wanted to get a better idea of if it is something that I really want to pursue. I was also interested by the interculturality of ILI and its work providing technical assistance to developing countries. Last summer, I interned with the Guatemala Human Rights Commission and traveled around Guatemala meeting persecuted human rights defenders. Seeing the absence of the rule of law, rampant corruption, and the false criminalization of human rights activists made me appreciate how important the rule of law is to fostering prosperity. ILI felt like the perfect place to blend my experiences from last summer with my interest in law—all while getting to meet people from around the world.
