Professor Giuliano G. Castellano is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Asian Institute of International Financial Law (AIIFL) at the University of Hong Kong, Faculty of Law. He specializes in international and comparative financial regulation and commercial law, with a focus on conduct of business and prudential regulation to promote access to credit and financial stability in the context of secured lending and digital finance. Giuliano has over 15 years of experience, with his scholarship appearing in prominent peer-reviewed journals and generating an impact beyond academia. He has been advising governments, central banks, and regulators in the Asia-Pacific, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Sub-Saharan Africa. He has contributed to international policy dialogues and technical assistance projects for the World Bank Group, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). For a decade, he served on the Italian delegation to UNCITRAL (Working Group VI on security interests), negotiating and contributing to the drafting of the UNCITRAL Model Law on Secured Transactions. As a member of the UNIDROIT Expert Group on Factoring, he contributed to the development of the UNIDROIT Model Law on Factoring. Prior to joining HKU Law, Giuliano held academic positions at the University of Warwick and the London School of Economics. He holds doctoral degrees from the Ecole Polytechnique (Paris) and the University of Turin, and a Law degree from Bocconi University (Milan).
