The International Law Institute was founded in 1955 as part of Georgetown University. Since 1983, ILI has been an independent, non-profit training institution. ILI offers training to assist government officials, practitioners and the private sector in finding solutions to the legal and economic challenges faced by developing nations and emerging economies. ILI participants are exposed to best practices in good governance, management, and transparency standards that will give them the tools to improve the performance of government agencies, promote public accountability in government and achieve economic growth. | ADVANCED LEGISLATIVE DRAFTING This course offers an intensive experience in drafting legislation. The course assists participants in mastering several common legislative provisions that pose special challenges to legislative drafters. Participants will do several medium-length drafting assignments and draft a longer, complex bill. Some prior experience in legislative drafting or legislation is helpful. Location: Washington, DC Tuition: $3950 Duration: 10 Business Days LEGISLATIVE STRATEGIC PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT This seminar is designed for parties responsible for providing support services to legislatures and parliaments. The growing demands on elected officials and their staffs to enact laws and review national policies efficiently and effectively in an ever–changing and complex environment requires new attention to how the process and institutions are managed. The focus will be on the organizational structure and practical techniques for managing legislative institutions and the support services necessary to accomplish this in an efficient and effective manner. Seminars will be conducted using site visits along with class programs and actual case studies. Participant round tables will be an important component to learning best practices. Special arrangements may be made with advance notice to tailor seminars for parties with specific interests. Location: Washington, DC Tuition: $3950 Duration: 10 Business Days LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT IN INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT This course empowers participants to become effective leaders and managers in the international development context. International development work involves multi-stakeholder cooperation and delivery in challenging environments. We designed this course to target governments from developing countries as well as practitioners in the international development community. The course tailors leadership and management training as it pertains to the public service sector and public sector reform. The skill set that needs to be developed includes leadership and decision-making, organizational management, human capital development, accountability and reporting standards, negotiations, navigating through political waters, and effective communications.
