Marek Dubovec, ILI’s Director of Law Reform Programs, spoke at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting August 15, hosted by the U.S. government in Seattle. The focus of the panel was an international treaty (MAC Protocol to the Cape Town Convention) to facilitate financing of mining, agriculture and construction equipment, and the legal issues that arise in connection with such transactions. Marek was joined at the panel by representatives from UNIDROIT, Association of Equipment Manufacturers, U.S. Department of Commerce, the Export-Import Bank of the United States, and others. The panel discussed various aspects of the MAC Protocol, encouraging APEC member economies its ratification as part of their efforts to modernize commercial legal frameworks to facilitate financing and leasing of equipment.
